The Stella Maris Program
At Nativity Preparatory School of New Bedford, an education is not limited to the classroom, or to academic subject material, because personal growth depends on a broad range of experiences. Consistent with this approach, the school requires that all students who have done sufficiently well during the academic year be considered for an invitation into the next grade at Nativity Prep, and to participate in the Stella Maris Program during the summer. The Stella Maris Program is currently run in conjunction with the Mattapoisett YMCA’s Camp Massasoit.
This tuition-free program takes place during the month of July and provides further opportunities for students to strengthen their academic skills and to enjoy activities and sports. Leadership, teamwork, and friendships will be fostered in an environment combining academics with recreation.
At camp the students will work on improving their grammar and mathematical skills. Due to the short time that the students are in class, it is extremely important that their behavior is excellent and their focus is sharp.
Students will be placed in one of four groups that alternate each day between math and grammar. The classes will be a review of the curriculum from the previous school year and a preview of the upcoming year. The curriculum of the summer camp will focus on the fundamental principles of algebra and grammar. Incoming eighth graders will also receive SSAT review during camp. |
